Carla Lane Bio

Carla Lane is the President and CEO of LaneStaffing, the largest minority-owned employment solutions provider in the Southwest.

Lane, a graduate of the University of Houston, began her career at a small staffing agency as an accounting clerk and worked her way up to becoming the VP of Accounting and Finance, overseeing accounting operations in over 15 states.

In 2003, DiverseStaffing hired Lane as the Senior VP and Chief Operating Officer where she was responsible for driving the company’s comprehensive financial strategies. In her job interview, Lane boldly proclaimed that her long-term goal was to buy the company from the owners.

That prediction came true in 2006 when the company was struggling. Lane took a leap of faith, bought all of their assets, and changed the name to LaneStaffing.

But turning around a failing company was not easy. Lane had to figure out, through trial and error, how to dig the company out of a hole and make it work. She relied on her deep understanding of how every job connected the company. She knew about answering the phones, processing payroll, and managing personnel because she did each of these tasks during her early years in the business.

Within a few years, Lane transformed the company into a $20 million enterprise. Today, LaneStaffing has expanded to fifteen states, serves government agencies and Fortune 100 and 200 companies, and employs over 800 people.

Lane’s business acumen has not gone unnoticed. She has been featured in Black Enterprise, Ebony and Essence magazines and her work has earned her many awards, including, but not limited to:

- University of Houston Distinguished Alumni Award

- Greater Houston Black Chamber of Commerce Pinnacle Award

- Extraordinary Is IMPACT Award Presented by the Rosie and Otis Brown Foundation

- I.C.O.N. Winning Woman Award

- Audrey H. Lawson IMPACT Award

Lane is also an in-demand speaker and has delivered talks at the 43rd Annual Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s Legislative Weekend, Super Bowl Business Connect Workshop, Black Enterprise Entrepreneurs Summit, NRG Center Franchise EXPO, Greater Houston Black Chamber Upstart Boot Camp, Rice Business School, and many others.

Not one to rest on her laurels, Lane founded This Woman’s Work, a non-profit agency dedicated to improving the lives of women and girls. The organization’s programs, Stepping Into Strength (SIS) Mentoring Program, Carla's Closet, and IronWomen emphasize social and economic empowerment and gender equality. Lane believes that building strong women and girls will lead to stronger families, communities, and ultimately, a better world.

Throughout her life, Lane, who is married and the mother of one daughter, has operated on a simple philosophy: work hard, enjoy life, and give back.
